Make Mine Freedom!

A rather excellent YouTube video, detailing the dangers of the “isms” and the wonders of American Freedom!  The music within is pretty classic soundtrack music of the era — very influenced by the art music of the period, but also much more likely to be enjoyable to the ears of the audience.  Have we lost our musical heritage’s tonality to these lost reels?

This message resonates in a 1950′s context; when soldiers were returning from WWII and people were finally going back to work after the Great Depression.

Capital and management had a soul then. People shared a sense of community. There were no mega-Global Corporations that dominated a market. Leaders then, believed the premise of this video: Capital, Management and Labor working together for everyone’s mutual benefit under laws derived from the suffering of the Great Depression. Which by the way was caused from speculation driven by leveraged greed.

30 plus years of dismantling these regulations (by both political parties) that codified this philosophical agreement we find ourselves back in a near Depression.

Beware, the false premise that the greed driving capitalism in the form of free markets needs no government regulation. Without it the cheaters make more money and the real capitalists do not; the incentive under “no regulation” is to bribe the politician to tweak the law enable cheating for those that can afford it.
Good government regulation creates a level playing field, encouraging entrepreneurship and individual effort to create value and be rewarded. Large special interests are not afforded privileged opportunity. Good government brings communal benefits capitalism cannot: Interstate Higways; Rural Electrification; Common Defense; Food and Drug Safety etc.

Examples of abuse due to de-regulation: the situations involving the first SAVINGS & LOAN bailout in the 1980′s; 1990′s ENRON & NAFTA, and most obviously the current total collapse of the symbol of world capitalism, WALL STREET.

Adam Smith knew that greed drives capitalism. And where greed is the dominant motive, feel-goodness about your fellow man and the environment take a back seat. Free Enterprise is the best system ever for creating value, but it needs constant vigil as well strong enforced, regulation to bear the fruit as depicted in this video.
